About

DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY:
The journey of the Department of History, Ananda Chandra College, Jalpaiguri started during the colonial period more specifically in 1942, through the introduction of Intermediate of Arts curriculum. Later on the Department was upgraded into Bachelor of Arts (Pass) Department with the introduction of Bachelor Degree Course in 1946 and subsequently B.A. Honours Department in 1958. The Department still holds that status. The faculty members of the Department were dedicated since its inception to disseminate the light of higher education in the northern part of the then undivided Bengal and the legacy is continuing even today.
The Department currently operates with four Associate Professors and five State Aided College Teachers or SACT. The entire team of the faculty members are always intended as well as keen to create a proper learning environment. Among the faculty members three State Aided College Teachers are engaged in the morning shift of the college while the rest are dedicated to the teaching - learning process in the day shift. Presently, the Department offers B.A. Major and B.A. Program Courses under the University of North Bengal to which our College is affiliated.
Apart from day to day teaching - learning, the Department organizes Educational Tour Programme for the betterment of the students. In addition to it, a number of Cultural Programmes are organized in the Department to nurture the skill of the pupils in cultural arena. The Department of History in a body, serves the society as a hub of organized education in the apparently under developed northern part of West Bengal.

DEPARTMENTAL EDUCATIONAL TOUR 2023-24

The Department of History successfully arranged educational tour programme just like previous years. In this academic session(2023-2024), the destination of the educational tour was Lava Monastery in which a number of Old Tibetan Manuscripts are preserved. Moreover the site is the symbol of excellent blend of old Buddhist Tibetan  Culture with modern Tibeto-Bbuddhist outlook . A team of students of 2nd and 4th semester was accompanied by 7 teachers for this educational trip as a part of the curriculum of the both semesters. 

The students and the faculty members enjoyed as well as gathered knowledge about the Tibeto-Buddhist Culture through this educational tour. It is hoped that all the participants of this tour will cherish the memory in the years to come. Visit galley to see snaps.  

DEPARTMENTAL EDUCATIONAL TOUR 2022-23

The Educational Tour Programme of the Department of History of Ananda Chandra College has been arranged in 2022-2023 academic session like previous academic year. The destination of this Tour Programme is Rabindra Museum, Mongpoo, district Darjeeling. The museum house was a bungalow where famous poet Rabindranath Tagore stayed in 1938 as a guest of eminent quintologist Dr. Manmohan Sen and his wife Maitreyi Debi, the creator of “Na Hanyate” novel. This bungalow had been transformed into museum with various photographs, paintings, and a few original writings of Tagore together with some writing items used by Tagore.
A team of 83 Students and 7 Faculty Members have taken part in this Tour Programme. All have become elated to know by visiting the museum that Tagore penned three poems including “Janmadin” during his stay in this bungalow, later turned into museum.Visit galley to see snaps.
