Welcome to Central Library

Central Library holds a unique position in Ananda Chandra College. The library is committed to serve the need of the undergraduate and post graduate students, faculty members and non-teaching staff since its inception in 1942. It is the main source of knowledge, which is an integral and important part of our institute for higher learning. The library aims to collect all the books and periodicals in order to fulfil the need of the students and faculties with a vision to cater through the seed of knowledge among all the learners. It provides a full range of high quality services based on both print and electronic media to the students, teachers, non-teaching staff of Ananda Chandra College and external readers and researchers from other institutions.

Mission

Library Committee & Library Staff

For smooth functioning of library and its activities every year college constitutes a Library Committee. The main objective of library committee is to decide and adopt policies to govern the management and programme of the library, to prepare the annual budget, rules and regulations of the library. The committee also looks into student’s grievances, if any. The committee consists, of Principal as Ex-Officio/Chairman, Librarian as Secretary and senior faculty members.

Library rules & regulations

Membership
  • Only Ananda Chandra College Students, Faculty members and Staff as registered members are allowed to use the Central Library.

  • A duplicate Library Membership card will be issued on payment of Rs.50/-

  • Identity Card will be issued by the Librarian on production of admission receipt and photograph.

  • On completion of course/on discontinuity/cessation of services, library cards to be deposited with the Central Library to obtain ‘No Dues Certificate’ from the Central Library.

Circulation
  • A student of Honours Course can borrow 2 (Two) books at a time for a period of 15 days. Students studying in General Course can borrow only 1 (One) book at a time for a period of 15 days. Students pursuing M.A. Course (Bengali) are allowed to borrow 4 (Four) books at a time for a period of 15 days. Besides, textbooks, a student can also take books related to different competitive examinations like SSC, UPSC, UGC NET, SET, etc. for a period of 30 days.

  • A maximum of 30 (Thirty) books will be issued to a Faculty member for a period of initial of Two months from the date of issue.

  • A maximum of 10 (Ten) books will be issued to State Aided College Teacher (SACT)/Non-teaching staff for a period of Two month from the date of issue.

  • A fine of re 1/- per day/ per book will be levied/ charged for delay of books.

  • Users should not deface, cut, mutilate/lost or damage Library Materials (including documents) in any form. If found guilty, User will be charged double the cost of that particular material.

Use of Computer and Internet Connectivity
  • Computer in the library premises should be used for academic purposes only.

  • Online chatting/dating, browsing of social networking sites is strictly prohibited. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against the defaulters.

  • Playing games on computers is strictly prohibited in the entire Library premises.

  • Changing the settings and display of the computers kept in the Library is not permitted.

  • Readers should not remove/unplug computer cables/connections, network cables and other peripherals/accessories in the library.

  • Personal keyboard, mouse, etc. are not allowed inside the Library. Students must take care of their Pen drives, mobiles and wallets etc.

General Library Rules for students
  • Reader should observe strict silence, decorum and discipline must be maintained in the library.

  • Every member must sign the register available at the entrance.

  • Identity Card is compulsory for availing of library facilities.

  • No admission is permitted in study room without Identity Card.

  • Books will be issued to only individuals and not to groups or areas.

  • Newspapers and Magazines must be read only in the library on specific tables and should not be taken to any other reading areas.

  • The Librarian reserves the right to suspend the membership of any member found misbehaving with the library staff or with any other member.

  • Students can borrow books, journals, question paper sets on their Identity Card in the study room.

  • Constructive suggestions in the Suggestion Box are entertained.

  • In case of any grievances the users should contact Librarian.

  • Readers of the library may recommend resources for procurement.

  • The Librarian is empowered to recall any book at any time if necessity arises.

Library Collections

The Central Library serves a wide range of information resources with various formats. Presently, it has a collection of more than 43,641 volumes of books (including reference books). Books and other library collections are shelved according to the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme 19th edition. All information materials and their locations are reflected in the card catalogue/Cardex on the 1st floor of the building. Besides, it subscribes six journals, five periodicals and two newspapers. More importantly, it is also a subscriber of UGC-INFLIBNET N-LIST programme which is a boon for students, researchers and teachers alike.
