About

The Department of Chemistry began its journey at the college in the academic year 1943–44 with the introduction of the Intermediate of Science (I.Sc.), later under the West Bengal Board of Higher Secondary Education (WBBHSE) and continued until 1999. The B.Sc. Pass Course in Chemistry was introduced in 1958–59, followed by the commencement of the Honours undergraduate course in 1965–66. At present, the department offers both Major and MDC courses under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP). The intake capacity for the Major course is 40 students.
During its long journey the department excelled in quality education by contributions from large number of efficient faculty members and laboratory attendants. The students after graduating from the department established themselves in different academic, research and various prestigious non -academic fields.

Academic Infrastructure/facilities

  1. Six faculty members from various specializations and three laboratory attendants.
  2. Well-maintained departmental library with over 200 text and reference books.
  3. Organized laboratory for respective courses offered.
  4. The department is well equipped with all necessary instruments including a UV-VIS double beam spectrophotometer, the digital balance of high precision, a water purifier for deionized water, etc.
  5. Well-enriched store with a varied stock of chemicals.
