About
The Department of Physics began its journey in the academic year 1943–44 with the introduction of the Intermediate of Science (I.Sc.) (later Higher Secondary under WBCHSE) which continued until 1999. The B.Sc. Pass Course in Physics was introduced in 1958–59, followed by the commencement of the Honours undergraduate course in 1965–66. At present, the department offers both Major and MDC courses under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP). The department features well-equipped laboratories that can accommodate many students simultaneously, including specialized labs for mechanics, thermodynamics, optics, electronics, modern physics, and computational physics. There are separate classrooms with ICT facilities and laboratories for Major and Multidisciplinary courses, as well as a departmental library.
