About

The department was established in the year 2003 with Honours course in Microbiology with 11 students and one faculty member. Currently, the department offers Microbiology Honours, Major, Minor, IDC & MDC courses under CBCS, FYGUP (old) & FYGUP (new) curriculum.

The current faculty members include six teachers who organise regular mentoring sessions , Parents Teachers Meeting (PTM), Seminar, invited lectures, industrial visits etc.along with the normal curriculum delivery.The academic infrastructure includes facilities for bacterial and fungal culturing and maintenance, microbial analysis of environmental samples, and the basics of molecular biology and analytical techniques. Students receive hands-on training in microscopy and microscopic analysis, benefit from an audio-visual approach for effective teaching, and participate in regularly orchestrated student-friendly projects. Over the years the department has produced successful students who have excelled in academics, administrative and industrial field.

ACADEMIC FACILITIES/INFRASTRUCTURE

1.The microbiology department is equipped with advanced laboratory tools and equipment such as microscopes, autoclaves, incubators, colorimeter, centrifuge , electrophoresis units etc. These tools are essential for carrying out various experiments.

2. The microbiology department has a separate culture room ,where pure cultures are maintained regularly. This supports practical learning and experimentation.

3. ICT tools are used along with traditional methods in teaching-learning process.

4. The department regularly invites guest speakers,  organizes webinar/seminar, mentoring session etc. for the students.

5.The department also organizes a study tour(industrial visit) every year to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge  and practical application.
